Extra Staples is a series of posts where I share various links I find interesting. It is not on any regular schedule, and the links can be old or new. For more frequent updates, I can be found on Instagram and Twitter, under the same moniker, Threestaples.

Black Fountain Pen Ink Comparison - JetPens.com
Oh boy, another fantastic, detailed post from JetPens that I’m bookmarking. The only black ink I’ve been using is the Pilot Namiki ink in cartridges. Boring! :D
Sailor HighAce Neo Clear Fountain Pen Review — The Pen Addict
I know everyone raves about the Pilot Metropolitan but after a slightly disappointing experience with it (maybe I got a dud), I’ve been wondering how this alternative from Sailor performs. It doesn’t look as nice but Brad’s review convinced me that it’s still a good option I should explore. And maybe I should try Platinum Plaisir while I’m at it, as reviewed by Brad a few years ago and mentioned on the latest Pen Addict podcast episode #214. I like that it’s supposed to be lighter than Pilot Metropolitan.
Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil II – Bleistift
I finally have the green Castell version! No handheld sharpener has ever worked for me, but I’m still enamored by Perfect Pencil’s design and concept. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get another one at some point, and I appreciate Matthias’ post on the junior version with a glimpse into its history.
The Handwritten Draft – Pete Denison
Ah, so that’s how Pete writes so well.. :) This was a timely post for me because recently, I realized (again) how much I enjoy working on my blog posts on paper, after a long period of mostly digital-writing in the name of “saving time.” (I always start a post with an outline on paper but the ratio of analog/digital writing really depends on the topic). Pete’s in-depth look on how he’s been writing his drafts longhand made me realize that I am a constant tweaker, and that I would benefit from forcing myself to flesh out my drafts on paper more often.
Things I tried recently (and liked)
Caran d’Ache Swiss Wood Pencil 348 HB
(pictured at the top of this post, along with the next item)
What a beautiful pencil. And it writes beautifully, too. Firmer than what I usually use but still smooth. I like how it feels slightly waxy.
Happy Cat Day Hitokoto Grey Memo Pad – Omoi Zakka Shop
Red bow tie. ’Nuff said.

15 Shape Rubber Stamps – Present & Correct
Rubber stamps of geometric shapes do funny things to my heart.

Connected #100: Tepid Takes - Relay FM
The intro made me laugh out loud so hard. And I can’t believe they’ve done 100 episodes already. Congrats!
A Cinnamon Belgian Waffle Recipe - Jaclyn Ginter (The Newsprint)
Woah, a new columnist at The Newsprint! I thoroughly enjoyed Jaclyn’s inaugural piece and will be looking forward to more. Click at your own risk; it’ll make you very hungry.
Watermelon candies shaped like watermelon (via pienikko)
Yummy design on the packaging, too.
Next time, when I’m writing in middle of the night, I will avoid looking at any food-related links.
Hope you have a good one!
