I prefer Field Notes to be graph grid or dot grid. But like many of you, I still couldn’t resist the DDC “Factory Floor Standard Issue” in “Sorta Jade” with a hit of “Acid Green” when it was released back in December 2013. It has blank body paper, so I’ve been putting off using it – until now.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I started making rubber stamps again. While going through my old stash of ink pads, I decided a swatch book of all the colors I have would be useful as a reference. And that’s when I remembered “Sorta Jade.” Finally, its time to shine had come!
I used a ruler and a pencil to make a grid on each page, and then I stamped away until I cataloged all the ink pads in my collection. Graph grid wouldn’t have been totally ineffective for this purpose, but I think the blankness definitely helped in making custom grids and letting the colors show without too much distraction. It’s only been a week or so since I made the swatch book but I found myself using it quite often. I keep it near my box of ink pads, and I flip through it before I work on my Hobonichi. I think it’s going to wear down very nicely from now on, as I’m sure I’ll do a lot of page flipping. And I’m looking forward to adding more colors. Maybe I’ll even take it with me the next time I go to a craft supplies store!
